There are approximately 38 million people living with HIV (PLWH), with an additional 1.5 million infections per year. In 2021, there were an estimated 247 million cases of malaria worldwide and caused 619,000 deaths. There is a geographical overlap of endemic HIV and malaria, which constitutes a high risk for co-infection. We are using the non-human primate (NHP) model to test the hypothesis that concurrent malaria infection diminishes the efficacy and immunogenicity of SIV\/HIV vaccination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n
\n
<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/labs.tulane.edu\/manuzak-lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/TNPRC-pbc-9393-3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-554\" width=\"561\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/labs.tulane.edu\/manuzak-lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/TNPRC-pbc-9393-3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/labs.tulane.edu\/manuzak-lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/TNPRC-pbc-9393-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/labs.tulane.edu\/manuzak-lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/TNPRC-pbc-9393-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/labs.tulane.edu\/manuzak-lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/TNPRC-pbc-9393-3-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/labs.tulane.edu\/manuzak-lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/TNPRC-pbc-9393-3.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 561px) 100vw, 561px\" \/>
Promotional photos for the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Covington, La.
